Q?Is Foamed Lightweight Cellular Concrete (FLCC) as strong as regular concrete?
A.

No, due to air entrainment on a weight for weight comparison FLCC is a weaker concrete so that FLCC is only suitable for situations where weight loading is restricted. However we can customize weight and strength to suit most situations.

Q?Is it more costly then regular concrete?
A.

Yes, lightweight concrete will generally cost more then regular concrete due to higher cement content and the added establishment cost of the foaming service provided (often onsite) to achieve a lighter product. This is less the case with larger measures.

Q?Can lightweight concrete be used for walls and roofs?
A.

Yes it can but needs to be designed for on a case by case basis.

Q?Does it provide better insulation then regular concrete?
A.

Yes it has a much higher R value then normal concrete.

Q?Does it need to be plastered?
A.

FLCC does not need to be plastered, but provides a very good substrate for plastering when appropriate.

Q?What is FLCC made of?
A.

A slurry or paste of sand, cement, fine aggregate, fly ash and water and (sometime)polypropylene fibers to which a foam is blended. Once cured, the resultant concrete becomes a highly air entrained concrete mass.

Q?How does FLCC rate for fire protection?
A.

FLCC is completely non combustable and because of its porous air content provides excellent fire rating with added benefit of resistant to spalling or exploding under high heat situations.

Q?What are FLCC’s acoustic properties?
A.

FLCC is an excellent sound absorbing and sound deadening structure. Sound waves are absorbed into the honeycomb like structure of the cellular concrete rather then reflected.

Q?What sort of finished surface is possible with FLCC?
A.

Densities over 1200Kg/M3 (half that of regular concrete) can be finished to a smooth surface. Lighter densities are generally screeded to a porous suface.

Q?Is FLCC water proof?
A.

FLCC consists of a closed cell structure. Consequently FLCC is water resistant and water will not pass through the product to the extent lighter densities will float on water indefinitely. However FLCC is not water proof insofar as the internal structure is wetted by constant exposure to water. FLCC is compatable with most water proofing products.

Q?Does FLCC need vibration and compaction on placing?
A.

FLCC is often self compacting and virtually self leveling at lower densities. Higher densities will require a small amount of vibrating during placement.
